Longitudinal Study of Graduation Outcomes
Longitudinal Study
Dear Pocantico Hills School Community,
I am pleased to introduce a longitudinal study in our school community, an initiative designed to understand and support the academic, social, emotional, and career readiness of our students as they transition from middle school to high school, and ultimately to college. This comprehensive study aims to provide invaluable insights that will inform our district’s strategies and interventions, ensuring that each student is equipped to thrive in their educational journey and beyond.
We have contracted with a consultant who has a wealth of expertise and experience in research and education to design the study, collect data, engage in focus groups, and conduct a statistical analysis. Consultants bring specialized knowledge in managing complex methodologies and ensuring confidentiality and data integrity to this work. They will provide guidance on maintaining consistency, complying with ethical and regulatory standards, as well as interpreting results impartially.
The objectives of this study include:
- Identify Specific Feedback: Assess academic, social, emotional, and career readiness
- Understand Transition Context: Examine the transition phases from middle school to high school, and project their progress to college and careers
- Collaboration: Work with key district partners to gather and present data that impact the current work of our school community
The design of this study includes:
- Duration: Ten months of research and reporting
- Data Collection: Utilizes qualitative (focus groups, surveys) and quantitative (achievement and enrollment data) methods
- Sample Selection: Establishes criteria for participant selection in focus groups
- Surveys: Craft surveys to evaluate academic, social, and emotional experiences
- Interviews: Develop guides for focus groups
- Data Points: Determine data collection points to collect and assess
- Data Review: Assess data with district staff to ensure comprehensive coverage
- Reporting and Dissemination: Compile a comprehensive final report at the end of the study and share findings
We are excited about the potential impact of this study and the opportunity to enhance our educational strategies to better serve our students. Your support and collaboration are vital to the success of this initiative. We look forward to working with you to achieve our shared goals.
Thank you for your attention and commitment to our students' futures.
Sincerely,
Richard Calkins
